Uncommon enamelware.
The Kambi Mug (which means “camp” in Swahili) is meticulously hand crafted in Europe, using production methods employed for over 100 years. Made by fusing powdered glass to a high-quality steel substructure, the result is a beautiful and durable enamel coating that protects the underlying metal from rust and guarantees food safety when used in the kitchen. Ceramic Olive+Comet trade dress and environmental partner logos are fired into the final layer of enamel, ensuring they will never peel or flake. Each handle is hand-finished with a flash of red pigment.

Heavy duty enamelware has long been a favorite of outdoor enthusiasts for it’s light weight, dependable performance and overall durability in the field. Our Kambi Mug is proudly crafted in the rich tradition of famed European enamelware by the men & women of Emalco in Siedlce, Poland. Initially fired at temperatures near 1,500°F (850°C) during the production process, a finished Kambi Mug is perfectly at home in the lesser temperatures of a campfire or stovetop, as well as in the oven, refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher.

What is enamel?
Enamel is a material made by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing in a kiln—typically at temperatures between 1,350° and 1,500°F (750°–850°C). What results is a smooth, highly durable “glassy” coating.
Is enamelware safe for food?
In a word, yes!
Originally marketed in the 1800’s as a safe alternative to the toxic materials sometimes found in kitchen products at the time, it seems as if we have come full circle. Enamelware is again increasing in popularity as modern kitchens become filled with plastics, silicones and food containers of unknown origin.
Enamelware is non-porous, inherently hypo-allergenic and anti-bacterial—which is perfect for food. It’s also non-stick, easy to clean and dishwasher safe!
However, If the enamel chips to reveal the steel beneath, in a location that would contact food—it’s use for food should be discontinued.
Is the Kambi mug microwave safe?
Don’t do it!
Like all enamelware, beneath the coating of enamel is a substructure made of steel—which does not belong in the microwave.
However, enamelware is perfectly safe for nearly every other situation, including the oven, stove top, campfire, induction cookers, outdoor grills—even the freezer, refrigerator and dishwasher!
How do I care for my Kambi mug?
As durable as enamelware is, your Kambi mug can be damaged if not handled with proper care.
To avoid staining, wash or soak promptly after use and avoid the use of vinegar, which can discolor the pigments. Baking soda can be used to remove light stains, like coffee or tea.
Enamelware can scratch if cleaned with abrasive cleaners, steel wool or stiff brushes. And it can chip or break if dropped or smashed against a hard object.
If your enamelware chips on the outside, you can still use it. However, if your enamelware is damaged in a place that has contact with food, you should stop using it for eating or storing food.
