Handcrafted with purpose from medium-weight organic canvas and lined with organic cotton sheeting, this bespoke bag is an everyday essential. The Sonoma Bag features a stylish curve at the base, wide straps for comfortable support, two easy-reach external pockets and a zip-top main compartment with ocean-friendly aged brass zipper & pull.

Choose from two variations—the Sonoma “Classic” or the updated Sonoma “II”, which looks identical, but adds two internal pockets. Sewn into the liner below the zipper, the inner pockets of the Sonoma II are perfect for stashing keys, phones or sunglasses.

Why are there two Sonoma bags & what's the difference between the two?

The Sonoma classic is our original Sonoma bag and the Sonoma II is the latest version of the same bag.

Both versions are identical on the outside but after feedback received from our customers, we now manufacture Sonoma bags with two additional internal pockets (sewn into the cotton sheeting liner) inside the zippered main compartment.

The Sonoma II will remain at our original price and the Sonoma Classic will be discounted while supplies last.

What is the Sonoma bag made from?

Our Sonoma bag is handmade by our fair trade partner using 100% GOTS certified organic cotton canvas.

GOTS stands for "Global Organic Textile Standard", and this important certification ensures that textiles are produced organically, without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides or genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and maintains compliance with high standards of social and ecological responsibility.

GOTS certification further warrants that products within its system are produced free of harmful chemicals and that the entirety of the supply chain engages in the responsible and efficient use of natural resources—like minimizing water usage and energy consumption.

What is the Sonoma bag made from?

Our Sonoma bag is handmade by our fair trade partner using 100% GOTS certified organic cotton canvas.

Can I wash my Sonoma bag in the washing machine?

You can—but we generally advise against it. The spin cycle can stretch & warp your bag, and hot water can shrink it. That said, we've had success using the gentle cycle, then hanging to dry.

We suggest spot cleaning with a stain remover (test an area first & follow the manufacturer’s directions). Or, you can use baking soda mixed with a bit of warm water (create a paste, apply it to the stain and let it sit for 5–10 minutes—then, wipe it off.

If your bag needs more than spot cleaning, hand wash it with mild soap & lukewarm water. Scrub gently to avoid damaging the cotton fibers. Hang the bag to dry.

Can I wash my Sonoma bag in the washing machine?

Brass tarnishes readily when exposed to salty water, but it maintains its functional integrity for a very long period of time and cleans up nicely. Therefore, the zipper on your bag will fair quite well when used as a beach or boat bag.

This isn't just your ordinary tote bag; it's THE go-to tote bag. As a college student and someone who works with kids, I constantly have to carry so many big objects to and from wherever I am, whether it is work, school, the beach, or the gym, I always find myself needing to carry bulky and awkwardly shaped items like my laptop, water bottle, phone keys, wallet, purse, etc... and I used to struggle by carrying around a leatherback-turtle-shell sized backpack that had no space. I found the Sanoma bag, which became a game-changer in my day-to-day life. Not only does it carry everything I need while being eco-friendly, but it's also a stylish conversation starter, beginning with "Where did you get that bag!?."

Great bag for adventures, shopping or everyday! You can pack so much, the pockets helps separate things and the straps are so comfortable and do not slip off! It’s definitely become my fave!

Durable and versatile!

My first thought was, great for the beach! And then, for travel! Or carry my puzzle books and novels for when I need to wait at the doc's office, dealership, etc. Shopping! All of the above and then some. For the past month, I've been using it at the hardware stores for renovation supplies, with my shopping list, measuring tape and (paint, floor) samples conveniently in the outer pockets. It's an ideal size to carry a lot of travel or store items, while being able to handle the weight. It's tough enough to withstand items that would otherwise poke through plastic, paper or other reusable shopping bags (like caulk tubes). It's made to fit comfortably on the shoulder. Another bonus is that it zips closed to contain everything! A lot of thought went in to this bag. Wonderful value!
